A thought for Sunday

Every soul struggles between good and evil; good doesn't always win. Let's strengthen the good to defeat the evil.

"The real conflict is inner conflict. Beyond the armies of occupation and the catacombs of concentration camps, there are two irreconcilable enemies in the depth of every soul: good and evil, sin and love. And what use are victories on the battlefield if we ourselves are defeated in our innermost personal selves."

A quote from Father Maximilian Kolbe during the Nazi occupation of Poland.

Baltimore & Gotham

Quotes from Batman Begins (and appropos for Baltimore):

  • As long as he keeps the bad people rich and the good people scared, no one will touch him.
  • He floods our streets with guns and drugs, preying on the desperate.
  • Criminals thrive on the indulgence of society's understanding.
  • Criminals mock society's laws.
  • We will not tolerate the continued permissiveness of our society.
  • Leaders convince people of a reality they cannot see and lead them to it.
  • People need dramatic examples to shake them out of their apathy.
  • What chance does Gotham have when the good people do nothing?
  • It's not who you are underneath, it's what you do that defines you.
  • Turn fear against those who prey on the fearful.
  • Why do we fall? So we can learn to pick ourselves up.
  • Justice is about harmony.

Life is not too unlike comic books. (love the grammar, don't you?)
